The Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography has decided to modernize its IT infrastructure.  The aim was to replace the integrated Oracle Exadata X2-2 hardware and software solution with the new generation of Oracle Exadata Database Machine X8-2 and optimize licenses.

The implementation of the new solution was expected to increase efficiency and reliability, as well as reduce costs and increase the productivity of GUGiK data centers. Currently used Exadata X2-2 had more than 50 Oracle databases in operation. Red Stack Poland’s task was to migrate all operating databases to the new Integrated Hardware Platform, which RSP delivered and installed in the location indicated by GUGiK.

At the moment GUGiK has a complete, optimized package of software, servers and mass storage. The Oracle Exadata Database Machine is ready to run the largest and most important database applications of the Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography which support among others key public registers.

Since 2020, Red Stack Poland has been continuously responsible for administration and maintenance of the Oracle Exadata. As well expanded twice the infrastructure with additional Oracle ZFS Storage Appliance disk shelves. The scope of work includes administration of the Oracle Exadata environment with over 50 Oracle Enterprise Edition databases running in a cluster of two instances, in a production environment.

GUGiK provides access to current geodetic and cartographic information and co-creates a modern spatial data infrastructure. In the second half of 2018 GUGiK undertook actions aimed at publishing the cadastral data directly from the poviat (county) servers to create web services providing broad access to all counties data bases. There are 380 poviats where the land and building register is stored (cadastral database). In total, the Polish cadastral database consists of 37 million parcels and about 15 million buildings.
